My Specialty- Adult Adoptees

You might be in the right place if…

You’ve been in therapy before and it never quite landed.

You’re tired of explaining the adoption stuff from scratch.

Something shifted recently and you can’t fully name what it is.

You perform okayness really well and it’s exhausting.

You’re wondering if the things you feel are normal, or if you’re broken.

You’re not broken. And you don’t have to explain yourself here.

Why "Cut Off Genes" Therapy?

The name is a pun, yes. Cut-offs were everywhere in the 90s.

But it’s also about something more literal: the genes that got cut off. The medical history that is basically a shrug. The face you don’t see anywhere in your family photos. The family tree with a branch that just ends.

Adoptees live in a mirrorless world. No one shares your nose, your laugh, your knack for piano. And for a long time, therapy hasn’t had a name for that.

This practice does.

Love makes a family. Genes still make you. We hold both things here.

Who is Karen?

I was adopted as an infant. At 29, my biological family found me.

What followed was years of navigating two families with opposite needs: one that wanted things to stay exactly as they were, and one that wanted to make up for 29 years of lost time. Meanwhile, I was trying to figure out who I was in the middle of all of it.

Nobody in my life had a map for that. So I made one.

I went back to school, trained as a therapist, and built a practice specifically for adult adoptees because I know from the inside how different this experience is. Not harder than other kinds of grief, not less valid than other kinds of complexity. Just different. And specific. And worth treating like it matters.

I became the therapist I wish I had.

Therapy with Karen

How it works

Whether you’re brand new to therapy or have been in and out of it for years, this probably feels different.

I show up direct and honest, without the clinical distance. I’ll ask what you want to get out of this early and often, because your goals will change as you do. That’s not a problem. That’s the point.

Sessions are virtual. You’ll get a secure link, log in from wherever you are in Massachusetts, Vermont, or Rhode Island, and we’ll get to work. You might also meet Annie. She’s usually nearby.

* I provide individual therapy sessions for adults age 18+.

*Session fee: $200/ 50 minute session.

*All sessions are virtual.

You will receive a HIPAA secure link for our sessions and log in from the comfort of Massachusetts, Vermont and Rhode Island- the states I'm licensed to practice. This will provide you the flexibility to save time without the commute, which allows you to prioritize your mental health.

I accept certain insurances. Clients are responsible for confirming their insurance eligibility.
